LE MOTAT (A.K.A. Shenkie A.K.A. The Guilty Pleaser) is the alter ego of Tato Wesselo from Rotterdam (1996). In search of the fine line between genius and silly banter, he writes and produces Dutch-language alternative pop songs with absurdistic traits like “1 Uurtje Verliefd”, “De Mat”, and “Gooi JIJ je KOP ‘s IN ‘t IJS” . His persuasive skills at the Grasnapolsky Festival 2022 were compared to “the Dutch Jack Black” by NRC, and KINK referred to Wesselo’s stage energy as “a cross-pollination of Jett Rebel and Henny Vrienten.”
